Aim of the City Climate Catalogue
The Copenhagen City Climate Catalogue is the first global collection to centralise facts and figures on community climate action – from targets to achievements.
It has been developed to present a strong case for local governments during the international climate negotiations on a post-2012 global climate agreement. Very successfully used by ICLEI and the City of Copenhagen during the COP15 (15th Conference of the Parties), the next step is toward COP16 in Cancún at the end of 2010.
Mega-cities, small cities, towns, villages and counties - all local governments around the globe, are invited to share their climate change mitigation targets and actions for the municipality (government / corporate) and whole community:
- Greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets and renewable energy targets
- Achievements: CO2 emissions reductions, energy savings, switch to renewable energy (RE).
Join the global collection effort! Share your community targets and local climate action data. Flyer available here.
Context
The Catalogue is used as a supportive tool in global advocacy work conduced at the United Nations. The Local Government Climate Roadmap was launched in 2007 in Bali, Indonesia during the COP 13. This process runs in parallel to the UN Roadmap to achieve a post-2012 climate agreement – calling for recognition of the important role of cities and towns in climate action.
The global partners of the LG Climate Roadmap are:
These organisations work in conjunction with their regional and national associations, networks and partners.
ICLEI acts as the international Roadmap facilitator. It is also the Local Government and Municipal Authorities (LGMA) Constituency Focal Point of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). In addition to its own Observer status, ICLEI acts on behalf of Local Governments facilitating dialogue with national governments and the UNFCCC Secretariat.
